My Story
James Takes on a 5‑Day Sahara Trek to Help End Homelessness
Next February, James, a dedicated Support Worker with a passion for helping others, will be swapping the streets of the UK for the sweeping sands of Morocco as he takes on a five‑day trek across the Sahara Desert. It’s a challenge of heat, endurance, and determination — all in support of Framework, a charity working tirelessly to eradicate homelessness and help people rebuild their lives.
The trek will take James deep into the Moroccan Sahara, where temperatures soar, dunes stretch endlessly, and the days are shaped by long miles on foot. From rocky desert plateaus to towering sand dunes, each day brings a new test — and a new reminder of why he’s doing this.
As a Support Worker, James sees firsthand the impact homelessness has on people’s lives. He also sees the difference that the right support can make. That’s why he’s chosen to take on this challenge for Framework, whose mission is simple but powerful: to end homelessness and give people the tools, stability, and support they need to rebuild their futures.
But James isn’t just walking for others — he’s walking as part of his own journey too.
James is currently six months sober, a milestone he’s incredibly proud of. Throughout his recovery, he has been using Framework’s Wellbeing Hub for support, alongside the encouragement of his line managers and colleagues at Complex Needs Lincoln and Sincil House. Their belief in him has helped fuel his determination to keep moving forward, both personally and professionally.
Exercise has become a cornerstone of James’s recovery. Getting into the gym and taking up running has given him structure, focus, and a powerful outlet for his wellbeing. In the last year and a half alone, he has completed the Lincoln 10k twice, the Nottingham 10k, and the Lincoln Half Marathon — all in aid of Framework. And this October, he’ll be taking on the Lincoln Half Marathon once again, continuing to push himself while raising awareness for the cause he cares so deeply about.
Every step James takes in the desert represents hope, resilience, and the belief that no one should face homelessness alone. His journey through the Sahara is more than a physical challenge — it’s a commitment to standing with those who need support the most, while continuing to strengthen his own path to recovery.
By taking on this trek, James hopes to raise awareness and vital funds for Framework’s life‑changing work. And with every mile of sand beneath his feet, he’ll be carrying the stories of the people he supports, the encouragement of his colleagues, and the pride of knowing he’s transforming lives — including his own.
